Children’s Literacy and Reading News Roundup – 29 June

2009 June 29

jkrROUNDUPThis week Jen Robinson is hosting our children’s literacy and reading news round-up.  The roundups are brought to you by Jen Robinson’s Book Page and Scrub-a-Dub-Tub, a Reading Tub blog. Jen Robinson and I have collected plenty of content for you about literacy and reading-related events; raising readers; literacy and reading programs and research; 21st century literacies; grants, sponsorships and donations; and other new resources. We hope you’ll find some useful information.

There are several stories related to the United We Serve campaign that are pretty inspiring and have already set great examples for literacy-related ways to help our communities.

Speaking of summer reading … Literacy and Reading News had a fascinating analysis of two studies that assessed how summer reading translates to reading achievement and comprehension after kids return to school.  As Jen notes, it is definitely worth the read.

This week’s Nonfiction Monday is being hosted by Kate Coombs at Book Aunt. Next week, I’ll be hosting here at Scrub-a-Dub-Tub.

cupcakeIn honor of Independence Day, Jen and I are going to enjoy long weekends and an extra book or two. Jen will host the next Children’s Literacy Roundup at her place on July 13 … a  national holiday in our house!
